胡安.米羅 JOAN MIRO (1893-1983)

Joan Miro was born in Barcelona, Spain. He entered Barcelona School of Fine Art at the age of fourteen. He interacted with acclaimed artists like Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso and Rousseau and experimented with Fauvism, Cubism and Dada and Surrealism. His style consists of self-invented symbols and poetic color compositions often depicting woman, birds, sun and stars. He works in multimedia from prints, watercolors, crayon drawings, collages, to ceramics and sculptures. His most recognized work is the two murals created between 1957 to 1959 of the moon and sun. He is one of the most influential 20th century surrealist painter alongside Picasso and Dali. Miro’s character conveys strong opposition towers conventional painting methods, but shows strong belief in nature. His style was mostly influenced by Surrealism and Dada, yet he rejected membership in any artistic movement during the interwar European years. With international acclaimed, Miro’s work has been interpreted as a sandbox for the subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike and a manifestation of Catalan pride. A museum was established in his native city in dedication to his artistic contribution to the world.
