ZHONG CHENG

Born in Chiayi in 1948, Chiu studied western painting at the Department of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University. During this time, he received much guidance and teaching from Liao Chi-chun. After he graduated from NTNU, Chiu became an art teacher at Taipei Municipal Chung-Cheng Senior High School. In addition to teaching, Chiu continued to paint, and held many solo exhibitions and participated in various joint exhibitions during his time as a high school teacher. In 1987, Chiu was awarded the “Golden Goblet Award” by the Art Society of China. He also won the Zhongxing Arts and Culture Award in the category of oil painting in 2001. For his more recent works, Chiu created mainly with pastel and oil paint, as he overlapped bright colors through his signature short and powerful strokes; the geometrically divided color blocks give the sceneries in the paintings a sense of time passing by. His recent exhibitions include: “Righteous Heaven and Earth” Chiou Bing-heng Solo Exhibition (2010, Tainan, Licence Art Gallery), “Beautiful Pulses” Chiou Bing-heng Special Exhibition (2011, Taipei, M.
