ZHONG CHENG

沈小彤 SHEN XIAOTONG (b.1968)

Shen Xiao Tong was born in Sichuan, China in 1968. He graduated from the printmaking department of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1989, the same year he participated in “Chinese Contemporary Art Exhibition” in Beijing. He also received an honorary award in the “1990s Guangzhou Biennial Oil Painting Exhibition” in 1992, and participated in Hong Kong’s “China’s New Art Post – 1989 Exhibition” in 1993. Since 1994, he has held solo exhibitions around the world including Beijing, the United States, Hong Kong and Shanghai. In 1997, he was invited by National Gallery Singapore to exhibit in “Quotation Mark! Chinese Contemporary Paintings.” As an expressionist painter, his creation indicates the transformation of Chinese new art in subject mater, content and value orientation; that is in direct association to current society, with focus on individualism and lifestyle oriented psychological states. His solo exhibitions include: “Singapore Diary of Temptation: Shen Xiaotong Exhibition” (2006, Art Retreat Museum, Singapore); “Shen Xiaotong New Work Exhibition” (2007, Shine Art Space, Shanghai, China); “Shen Xiaotong Solo Exhibition” (2008, Hanart TZ Gallery, Hong Kong, China); “Chinese Picture” (2006, Nanjing Sifang Art Museum, China); “Miami Art Basel” (2007, Miami, United States).
