Ren Wei Yin was born in Shanghai, China. He was interested in art at an early age. His parents hired both French and Russian tutor; therefore, although he was never educated abroad, he was raised in a western environment. He graduated from Shanghai Xin Hua School of the Arts in 1936, where he was taught by painter Pan Tian Shou, Zhu Le Zhi and Huang Bin Hong and other renowned artists. He later enrolled in Shanghai Mei Zhuan Painting Research Institute for further education. He was a professor at Chongqing Academy of Fine Arts and National Taiwan University of Arts. In Chongqing, he met artist Zhang Da Qian, Xu Bei Hong, Wu Zuo Ren, Li Ke Ran and more. In 1990, his painting was selected to represent Shanghai in the Japan Yokohama Friendly Exchange Exhibition. In 1991, Shanghai Art Museum held his solo exhibition while also acquiring 14 of his paintings into their permanent collection. From 1989 to 1992, Ren was invited to exhibit in galleries in New York, one-third of his paintings are now in the hands of American collectors.
